Amidst ongoing contract discussions, Herbie Farnworth, the standout centre for the Dolphins, is prioritizing several key goals as he enters a critical phase of his career.
With his current deal expiring at the conclusion of the next season, retaining Farnworth has become a top concern for the Dolphins, especially with interest expected from rival teams after November 1.
For the moment, he has decided to put contract negotiations on hold to focus on his training, leading the Dolphins toward their first NRL title, triumphing in the World Cup with England, and securing his next contract.
Reflecting on his previous contract signing, which lasts until the end of the 2027 season, Farnworth shared that he adopts a calm attitude during negotiations, stating, "It looked like it was going to work. It felt right … so I decided."
He added, "I'm not an over-thinking type of person. I don't really put too much attention on my contracts. I feel like my job is to play footy. If I am doing that right, contracts take care of themselves."
Farnworth communicates that he allows his manager to handle contract matters, which he finds beneficial.
Despite various reports linking him to the Sydney Roosters throughout the year, Farnworth has consistently expressed his desire to remain with the Dolphins.
In his discussions with AAP, he emphasized his commitment to achieving success at both club and international levels, lauding the positive culture fostered by Coach Kristian Woolf.
"All my energy and focus is on the finals series and when the time is right we will talk," he said.
Farnworth concluded, "I have told the Dolphins that I want to put it off until after we are done playing, hopefully in the grand final ... and even better if it's after the World Cup final."
