Injuries and Wallabies commitments have pushed Queensland Reds coach Vern Cotter to recall unlikely reinforcements for Super Rugby AUS.
Former Warriors winger David Fusitua will start at outside centre against NSW Waratahs in Roma on Saturday, while ex-Wallaby Sefa Naivalu has also joined the squad.
Fusitua, 31, played more than 100 NRL matches, represented New Zealand and Tonga, and spent three seasons with Leeds until 2024.
He has since worked as a youth worker and played grassroots rugby for Brothers, helping them win this year's premiership.
"It's crazy how things work out. After my time in league ended with Leeds I knew I wasn't finished with footy," said Fusitua.
"I'd wanted to try rugby, made some enquiries through a friend in NZ and he connected me to Brothers.
"I've really enjoyed the scene and the guys there and what grassroots footy is all about.
"I know the history and respect the Reds jersey, and want to rip in at Roma against NSW."
Naivalu had planned to play for Vintage Reds against Roma Echidnas before Cotter called.
Backline injuries include Lachie Anderson, Izaia Perese, Josh Flook and Treyvon Pritchard.
Matt Faessler and Tom Lynagh will also gain valuable opportunities to press their cases for Wallabies recalls.
