In a clash that could only be described as a battle of the exes, former Sea Eagles teammates Morgan Harper and Kaeo Weekes faced off on the field last weekend.

Both players have found new homes in different NRL clubs, with Weekes making the move to the Canberra Raiders in search of a starting role.

Harper, now with the Eels, has nothing but praise for his former teammate, backing Weekes to make the Raiders' five-eighth position his own in the upcoming season.

Harper highlights Weekes' speed and tenacity as qualities that will surely put him in serious contention for the coveted No.6 jersey.

With the opening round trip to Newcastle approaching, Weekes finds himself in a fierce competition with NRL rookie Ethan Strange for the spot alongside vice-captain Jamal Fogarty in the halves.

Both players certainly left an impression in their first outing against the Eels, leaving Raiders coach Ricky Stuart with a selection headache.

It's clear that Weekes and Strange have brought their A-game to the table, making it a tough decision for Stuart to make.

Time will tell who will ultimately claim the No.6 jersey, but one thing is for sure - Weekes is ready to KO his rivals in the battle for the position.
