Michael Ennis Reflects on Departure from Dragons
Michael Ennis has shared his feelings about being released from his role as an assistant coach with the St George Illawarra Dragons.
After the announcement on Monday morning regarding Shane Flanagan's exit from the club, Ennis was in contention for the interim coaching position.
However, the role ultimately went to fellow assistant Dean Young, who made several significant decisions on his first day, including the decision to let Ennis go.
"That was tough on Monday... and then obviously disappointing after having a conversation with Dean (Young) because I love coaching, and I thoroughly understand that with the position that the club's in and the results they've had, they needed to make some change."
"(I) can really do nothing more than to wish them well, there's some great people at the Dragons and whilst results haven't been there, there's great things happening there and I'm really looking forward to watching them."
"I hope Dean does a great job with them which I'm sure he will."
Since joining the Dragons in September, Ennis had yet to experience a win, as the team faced 11 consecutive losses during his time.
Despite the difficult decision, both he and Young maintain a positive relationship.
"That one was hard, mate, to be honest," Young remarked on the decision to part ways with Ennis.
