Kallum Watkins could reach a fourth World Cup if he takes the field after joining England's squad in the coming days.
England RL announced on Wednesday that Morgan Smithies had been ruled out of the tournament after an injury in training.
Head coach Brian McDermott called up the 35-year-old Leeds Rhinos back-rower as Smithies' replacement.
Watkins played at the 2013, 2017 and 2023 World Cups and featured in two of last year's three Ashes Tests against Australia.
"It's really unfortunate what has happened to Morgan with an injury picked up in training," McDermott said in a statement.
"Morgan had been great since we entered camp. He's a real team player and his work ethic and toughness are qualities that we will certainly miss.
"Kallum enjoyed a terrific season with Leeds this year and has been part of the England Performance Programme building into this World Cup.
"I look forward to welcoming him into camp as we step up the preparations."
