Leeds Rhinos veteran Kallum Watkins has been called up for his fourth World Cup after Morgan Smithies suffered an injury in training.
Watkins, 35 and capped 32 times, previously played in the 2013, 2017 and 2022 tournaments.
He will not reach Perth in time for England's Saturday opener against Tonga, but is expected to feature against France and Papua New Guinea.
Smithies, a Canberra Raiders forward, was one of 10 NRL players in coach Brian McDermott's squad.
McDermott said of the 25-year-old: "It's really unfortunate what has happened to Morgan with an injury picked up in training,"
"He's been great since we entered camp, a real team player and his work ethic and toughness are qualities that we will certainly miss."
McDermott, who previously worked closely with Watkins at Leeds, said: "Kallum enjoyed a terrific season with Leeds this year and has been part of the England performance programme building into this World Cup.
"I look forward to welcoming him into camp as we step up the preparations."
