Eels' Player Questions Crucial Officiating Error

‘Told me not to challenge’: Why Moses was left baffled by strange ref call at crucial moment

Mitch Moses has expressed his confusion over a significant officiating decision just before halftime that ended up costing the Eels a key tryscoring chance in their 22-20 golden point defeat to the Tigers.

With only three minutes remaining in the first half, Eels prop Jack Williams made a thrilling break down the right sideline, nearing the tryline before Adam Doueihi and Api Koroisau brought him down.

After hitting the ground, Williams attempted to quickly get back on his feet to play the ball, but lost it forward while several Tigers players were still in contact with him.

Referee Gough deemed it a knock on, believing the tackle was not yet complete, which prompted an immediate protest from Moses.

"I want to challenge. He's getting up to play the ball," Moses articulated.

However, Gough replied, "You want to challenge? I hadn't ruled the tackle complete. It's a lost ball," essentially indicating to the Eels captain that any appeal would be futile.
