Extent of Dylan Edwards' Head Injury Uncovered
Penrith Panthers' fullback Dylan Edwards is on track to face the Parramatta Eels next week, despite needing 10 stitches following a tough match against the Brisbane Broncos.
During the second half, Edwards sustained a severe cut to the top of his head in an accidental clash with teammate Liam Martin.
The injury occurred while Edwards was aiding in a tackle against Broncos centre Gehamat Shibasaki; Martin's knee struck the fullback, resulting in a deep laceration.
Demonstrating his trademark resilience, Edwards continued to play for the last 20 minutes of the game despite the injury.
The Panthers' medical team adeptly managed the situation, utilizing gauze, Vaseline, and protective headgear to control the bleeding, allowing him to stay on the field.
Fortunately, Edwards exhibited no signs of concussion and did not need a Head Injury Assessment, making him likely to participate in the upcoming clash against the Parramatta Eels.
The 30-year-old maintained his impressive work rate throughout the game, underscored by an incredible try-saving move in the closing moments.
In a key play, after Brisbane spread the ball wide, Edwards raced across the field to thwart Josiah Karapani from scoring, averting a seemingly certain four-pointer.
While the Panthers will have their dependable fullback available, focus now shifts to halfback Nathan Cleary.
