The Dolphins reached their first finals campaign in 2025, finished in the top four and secured a home preliminary final against the Roosters last week.
The Daily Telegraph reports Dean Young is targeting Nathan Fien for the Dragons' 2027 coaching staff, after Fien helped create the NRL's best attack.
Fien joined the Dolphins' coaching staff before their inaugural season under Wayne Bennett and has since worked as an assistant under Kristian Woolf.
Fien and Young played together in the Dragons' 2010 premiership side under Bennett, ending a 31-year title drought.
Fien came off the bench and scored in the grand final against the Sydney Roosters.
The Dragons finished bottom and are overhauling their roster, signing Scott Drinkwater, Keaon Koloamatangi, Luke Metcalf, Connor Watson, Phillip Sami and Kodi Nikorima.
The club is also interested in reuniting Fien with Nikorima, who has left the Dolphins.
Young is preparing for his first pre-season as full-time coach and has extended several emerging players.
