Dragons Shake Up Roster Before Dolphins Match

The St George Illawarra Dragons are preparing for an unexpected change ahead of Friday's match against the Dolphins, as five-eighth Daniel Atkinson is set to be dropped.

This decision from coach Dean Young comes after the team's disheartening defeat at home against the struggling Gold Coast Titans last week.

Atkinson's defensive performance, in particular, raised concerns, especially with Jayden Campbell exploiting the Dragons' left edge.

The Titans capitalized on several line breaks, generating scoring chances through quick passes and offloads.

Atkinson's inconsistent form has been a concern throughout the season, having transitioned from halfback to five-eighth shortly before Shane Flanagan's departure.

Reports also indicate that Moses Suli is set to return for the upcoming game, taking Mat Feagai's place in the backline.

Amidst this week's happenings, the Dragons also announced their sixth signing for 2027, with Dolphins five-eighth Kodi Nikorima joining the club.

Atkinson's position within the team now seems precarious, especially since Lyhkan King-Togia practiced in his stead and is likely to collaborate with Kyle Flanagan in the halves.

Although Atkinson is versatile and could assume different roles moving toward 2027, the Dragons' poor offensive performance this year may hinder his prospects of being a consistent starter.
