The St George Illawarra Dragons have made the decision that star second-rower Jaydn Su'A will remain with the club for now.

This Queensland State of Origin representative is currently suspended and may miss out on selections this year due to his team's poor performance over the opening third of the season.

Though he has agreed to a contract with the Parramatta Eels starting in 2027, he will part ways with the Red V at the conclusion of this season.

Despite being under contract until the end of the current campaign, the Eels had reached out to explore the possibility of acquiring Su'A before the trade deadline set for June 30.

The blue and gold are grappling with numerous injuries, including serious ones for second-rower Matt Doorey and middle forward J'maine Hopgood.

The Dragons might be considering the advantages of releasing Su'A, particularly as the 2026 season appears to be less promising, coupled with several young forwards they are eager to develop, including Ryan Couchman and Dylan Egan, who is returning from injury.

Additionally, Luciano Leilua is also in their roster and will be off-contract at the end of the season.

Reports indicate that the Dragons are still aiming to salvage something from this season, though what that entails remains uncertain-avoiding the wooden spoon could be seen as an achievement for interim coach Dean Young, who took over from Shane Flanagan with a struggling squad.

Since joining from the South Sydney Rabbitohs, Su'A has been one of the Dragons' standout players, but his current suspension means he won't be eligible to return until after Magic Round.
