Adam Doueihi has left the West Tigers following a heated exchange with coach Benji Marshall.
Recently cleared to play after successfully contesting a careless high tackle charge at the NRL judiciary, Doueihi was initially included in the reserves as Javon Andrews prepared for his debut at halfback.
After his legal win, many expected Doueihi to reclaim the starting role, pushing Andrews to the bench or back to his usual position at five-eighth.
However, reports from News Corp revealed that Marshall met with Doueihi on Thursday morning, informing him that he would not be starting at halfback.
Marshall's intention seemed to be to debut Andrews, maintain Jarome Luai at five-eighth-despite his upcoming transfer to the Parramatta Eels-and possibly shift Doueihi to a middle position or off the bench.
This decision left Doueihi feeling frustrated, prompting him to opt out of this weekend's match.
"Adam won't be playing this weekend," stated Tigers Chief Executive Shaun Mielekamp in a recent interview.
"Adam and Benji met this morning to discuss a plan for the weekend. Benji made a call on what's best for the team, but as a result Adam has asked for some time off, and we agree to that."
