Aaron Woods has criticised the NRL's preliminary-final arrangement as "unfair" to the team reaching the grand final from the later match.
The Dolphins will meet either the Roosters or Sharks on Friday, September 25, at 7.50pm.
Penrith will face the Warriors or Knights on Sunday, September 27, at 4.05pm.
Consequently, the first preliminary final's winner will have nine days before the grand final, while the other finalist receives seven.
Former NRL players Reni Maitua and Josh Reynolds nevertheless prefer the shorter interval.
Speaking on the Triple M NRL podcast, Maitua said: "To me I prefer the seven-day turnaround, provided there's no injuries," Maitua said. "I just think the nine days is maybe a little bit too long where you can play the game out in your head a little bit. But if there's some injuries obviously the nine days is a luxury."
Reynolds said: "I'm seven as well, just because it's normal. You never have nine-day turnarounds during the season. And seven is actually long (as well). It's more training and longer time to think. So I would definitely like the shorter turnaround for sure."
Maitua also noted that a Dolphins grand-final appearance would mean one match in 20 days after their bye.
The NRL has avoided a Saturday preliminary final for a second consecutive year, apparently to avoid clashing with the AFL grand final.
Last season, Brisbane had seven days against Melbourne's nine, but the Broncos won the grand final.
The Dolphins' Friday fixture also limits their travel burden, while the Sydney-based second finalist avoids travelling to the grand final.
