Demetriou hops back into coaching spotlight opportunity

In a twist of fate that could rival a last-minute try in the NRL Grand Final, former South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Jason Demetriou has emerged as a contender for a new head coaching role in rugby league.

Reports from zerotackle.com suggest that Demetriou, currently plying his trade on Triple M, may soon find himself back on the sidelines, calling the shots for a new team.

After a less-than-ideal departure from the Rabbitohs following a rocky season start and a failure to make the finals, Demetriou is eager to make a comeback in the coaching world.

The Parramatta Eels had previously eyed him for their coaching position in 2025, but ultimately went with other candidates.

Now, another club has thrown their hat in the ring, recognizing Demetriou's potential to steer a team to victory.

The Leeds Rhinos, on the hunt for a new head coach, have interviewed Demetriou for the vacant position.

With experience as an assistant coach at the Cowboys, Dragons, and Rabbitohs before taking on the top job, Demetriou's connections to the UK may give him an edge in landing the role.

A seasoned player himself, with stints at the Keighley Cougars and Wakefield Trinity, Demetriou's rugby league roots run deep and could serve him well in this potential coaching opportunity.
