In a bombshell development, Broncos legend Darren Lockyer has let slip some insider info on the ongoing saga surrounding Payne Haas and his battle with injury ahead of a crucial NRL clash with the Dolphins.
Haas, a key player for Brisbane, has been on the sidelines for three weeks due to a foot injury, but is determined to make a comeback in time for the must-win game on Saturday.
Coach Kevin Walters is already dealing with the absence of fullback Reece Walsh, but the potential return of Haas could provide a much-needed boost to the team.
Despite wearing a 'no-contact' bib during training, Haas has been included on the extended bench for the upcoming match.
There's speculation that Walters may have a trick up his sleeve and could surprise everyone by bringing Haas into the main squad before the final team selection is made.
Lockyer, a Broncos director with a keen eye for the game, hinted at this possibility when discussing Haas' chances with fellow league great Wally Lewis.
"He's been training hard and if he passes one more session, he could be good to go," Lockyer revealed on Wide World of Sports' QLDER.
"The original plan was to target the Melbourne game, but with Walsh out as well, there's a chance they might take a risk and play him this week against the Dolphins."
As the tension builds and the stakes get higher, all eyes will be on Haas as he fights to make his return and keep the Broncos' finals hopes alive.
It's a classic case of a player pushing through adversity and giving his all for the team in a critical moment of the season.
