Reuben Cotter, a forward for the North Queensland Cowboys, is set to contest a high tackle charge at the NRL judiciary on Tuesday evening.
This charge stems from a Grade 2 careless high tackle issued by the match review committee on Sunday, following a tackle in Saturday's upset loss to the Canberra Raiders.
The tackle, which resulted in Cotter receiving a sin bin, marks the first time he has faced judiciary proceedings.
If convicted, Cotter faces a one-game suspension with an early guilty plea, or two games if he challenges and loses.
However, the Cowboys forward is fighting the charge rather than pursuing a downgrade, claiming he is not guilty of the offense.
Should Cotter win his challenge, he will still be eligible to play in the first weekend of the finals.
Conversely, a guilty verdict could sideline him for the Cowboys' second finals match if they triumph, as well as for the opening game of the Rugby League World Cup, where he is expected to be part of the Australian Kangaroos squad.
The hearing will coincide with another potential judiciary case, as the Cronulla Sharks may also contest a high shot from Michael Gabrael, resulting in a two-match suspension.
The Cowboys will meet the Sharks in the first elimination final on Saturday evening in Sydney.
