Coach Blames Referee for Costly Game Incident

‘Most unprofessional thing I’ve seen’: Webster takes aim at ref after bizarre call proves costly

After a peculiar first-half incident, Warriors coach Andrew Webster has expressed his dissatisfaction with referee Gerard Sutton following a costly call in the Warriors' narrow 10-8 defeat to Cronulla.

The pivotal moment occurred 17 minutes into the match when the Warriors were penalized for a shot clock violation, as Chanel Harris-Tavita failed to initiate a drop-out before the shot clock expired at Go Media Stadium.

This situation left Harris-Tavita in a state of confusion, believing he still had additional time to act.

Just two seconds before the buzzer sounded, Sutton was overheard clearly announcing, "five seconds" as a warning to Harris-Tavita.

However, after the buzzer went off, Sutton called for a penalty, prompting protests from the Warriors players who had relied on his prior five-second warning.

In response to Sutton's ruling, player Egan remarked, "You said five seconds."
