Cheika backs Farah for Lebanon job

Season Review: Wests Tigers

Cheika is set to leave Lebanon after the Rugby League World Cup and return to rugby union as NSW Waratahs coach.

He has backed Robbie Farah as a future Cedars head coach, saying the former Wests Tigers star is equipped for the role and understands the team's importance to Lebanon.

Farah, 42, has not ruled out taking the job, but told the Sydney Morning Herald he had not given it much thought.

"It's humbling to hear Cheika say that about me, but he's still the coach, and I haven't given it much thought."

Farah represented Lebanon and served on Cheika's national coaching staff. He also worked under Benji Marshall at Wests Tigers before leaving the club's staff at the end of 2024.

He made his Cedars debut at 18 and said the opportunity helped him reach the NRL within six months.

"I got my chance to play for the Cedars as an 18-year-old, and it springboarded my career because I was playing in the NRL within six months."

Farah has also expressed a desire to help develop more Lebanese players for the NRL.
