Manly Sea Eagles confirmed David Penna's return as NSW Cup coach on Monday, ending Brett Kimmorley's 2026 stint on the Northern Beaches.
Canterbury-Bankstown will make a similar change, with Jason Taylor departing after this season and Josh Jackson expected to lead the reserve-grade team.
News Corp reports that Bulldogs chief Phil Gould told Taylor the club would pursue a different coaching direction.
Taylor assisted Cameron Ciraldo during 2024 and 2025, after previously coaching the Wests Tigers, Parramatta Eels and South Sydney Rabbitohs.
Adam O'Brien replaced him as Canterbury's attacking coach this season, moving Taylor into the NSW Cup position.
Taylor explained the decision to News Corp.
"I raised the topic a few weeks ago with Gus, and he told me that the club was going to bring in Josh Jackson as NSW Cup coaching role, which I can understand,"
"That's rugby league. You don't expect those conversations to be too fluffy."
Despite the change, Taylor said he valued his Bulldogs tenure and would seek another position for 2027.
"I really enjoyed my time at the Bulldogs," the former North Sydney Bear said.
"There is a great playing group there.
"I've got 25 years' experience at NRL and NSW Cup coaching level.
"I've got plenty more years left in me. It would be great if something could come along."
