Bulldogs Forward Navigates Contract Uncertainty

Jacob Preston is set to explore his worth in the marketplace, as the burgeoning forward for the Canterbury-Bankstown Bulldogs has become a focal point in the club's contract discussions.

While there is increasing interest from outside, Preston is reportedly content at Belmore.

His impressive development over the last year has notably escalated his market value, creating challenges for the Bulldogs' salary cap as they strive to maintain a strong forward lineup.

Sport Confidential has confirmed that the Bulldogs have initiated talks to extend Preston's contract, which currently runs until the end of 2027.

Nonetheless, the 24-year-old will be eligible to engage with other teams starting November 1, intensifying the urgency for the Bulldogs in negotiations.

Earning around $500,000 a season, Preston's upcoming contract is predicted to be closer to $750,000, reflecting his reliability and reputation as a possible State of Origin candidate.

His situation is further complicated by the overarching roster dynamics at Canterbury.

The club has ten players whose contracts are expiring next season, including pivotal figures such as Jaeman Salmon, Max King, and Matt Burton, with Burton rumored to be linked to the new Perth Bears franchise.

Following his standout performances, especially last week's surprise victory against the Penrith Panthers, Preston's value has continued to rise.

In that encounter, he not only scored a try but also broke the line three times, covered 115 metres, and made 39 flawless tackles, showcasing his significance in both offensive and defensive roles.
