Dylan Brown, the marquee signing for the Newcastle Knights, is keen to see his new teammate Kalyn Ponga don the Kiwis jersey. There are increasing discussions suggesting that the Knights duo may play together for New Zealand in the upcoming Rugby League World Cup.
Brown recently signed a significant 10-year contract with the Knights and was a standout performer in the Pacific Championships, leading New Zealand to victory and winning Player of the Tournament.
He feels that Ponga, who has represented Australia during the 2019 World Nines, would be an ideal addition to the Kiwis, provided the ARL Commission modifies the current eligibility rules. These rules currently restrict players from representing other tier-one nations while still participating in State of Origin.
"That'd be cool," Brown told the Sydney Morning Herald.
"I think he's actually starting to find a lot of love for his culture. His dad's Maori and his sister is living in New Zealand. She's real connected, so hopefully she convinces him to come."
