Broncos' Staggs Faces Suspension After Incident

The night proved to be a challenging one for Brisbane, and Kotoni Staggs ensured it ended poorly for them.

As the Broncos found themselves trailing 30-24 and striving to turn the game around in the 70th minute, Staggs was ejected from the match for lifting his elbow and striking Hugo Savala in the back of the head-a moment that drew focus away from the game itself and toward potential disciplinary action.

Adam Gee, the referee, reacted promptly to the incident, dismissing Staggs from the field and leaving his team at a disadvantage as they ultimately fell 38-24.

The NRL's Match Review Committee has charged the centre with Grade 2 Dangerous Contact, putting Staggs at risk of facing a two-match suspension if he opts for the early guilty plea.

If he chooses to contest the charge at the judiciary and is unsuccessful, the suspension could escalate to three matches.

This lapse in judgment could be costly for both the player and the Broncos.

Furthermore, with teammates Adam Reynolds and Deine Mariner already sidelined due to injuries, the situation exacerbates their challenges.

Staggs now has until Tuesday to make a decision on whether to accept the charge or challenge it in front of the judiciary.

Despite the controversy, the Broncos centre is expected to be available for State of Origin.
