Aussie TV and radio personality Ben "Dobbo" Dobbin has found himself in a bit of a pickle after a nasty bike crash that landed him in the hospital with a broken neck.

The Channel Nine and Triple M presenter is feeling pretty lucky to still be breathing after a run-in with a black snake on the road during a training session for the Noosa Triathlon with cycling coach Cam Hughes.

"My front tyre clipped his back tyre and I lost control, shot across the road, got spat out and went head first into the one and only steel pole," Dobbin recounted from his hospital bed at Brisbane's Wesley Hospital.

The mishap occurred during a ride from Nundah to Hornibrook Bridge, and Dobbin thought he might be facing life in a wheelchair after the crash.

"I knew something was wrong straight away and an ambulance was called.

I had a CT and MRI and was diagnosed with a fractured C5 vertebrae," he revealed.

After undergoing surgery on Thursday night, doctors hit him with the grim reality that most people with this type of injury "don't ever walk again." A tough blow for the 48-year-old, but he's facing the challenge head-on like a true Aussie battler.
