English Super League sensation Brodie Croft appears poised for a return to the NRL following discussions with the St George Illawarra Dragons.
The halfback's last stint in the NRL was with the Brisbane Broncos in 2021, where he played for two seasons after an initial four-year career with the Melbourne Storm.
Seen by many as a potential successor to Cooper Cronk at Melbourne, Croft struggled to find his rhythm in the NRL, leading to his departure after 65 games to join the English league.
During his time in the UK, however, he has excelled, playing 55 games for the Salford Red Devils in 2022 and 2023, and an additional 61 for the Leeds Rhinos.
A winner of the prestigious Man of Steel award, he has frequently been mentioned as a candidate for an NRL comeback and reportedly has a clause in his contract facilitating this.
However, this won't have bearing as Croft is set to be off-contract at the end of the current season.
According to Love Rugby League, Croft has engaged in talks with the Dragons, although a formal contract offer has yet to be presented by the club.
In addition, other English clubs, including the Warrington Wolves, have shown interest in acquiring the 28-year-old halfback, while Leeds is keen to keep him on their roster.
Warrington is preparing for the loss of George Williams, who is expected to join the Dolphins in the NRL at the season's end, but confirmation of the transfer is still pending.
