Brisbane Broncos face rival-club talks

NRL fan survey's staggering reveal about support for Brisbane Broncos amid club's dramas

On November 1, 176 NRL players will become eligible to negotiate with rival clubs. The group includes established stars Sam Walker and Nathan Cleary, as well as less-experienced players with first-grade potential.

Names included in the off-contract list are Phillip Coates, Dane Gagai, Ben Hunt, Josiah Karapani, Deine Mariner, Blake Mozer, Hayze Perham, Brendan Piakura, Ben Talty, Aublix Tawha, Xavier Willison and Richard Penisini.

Brisbane have secured key players beyond 2027, easing pressure to retain their core. Young wingers could face tougher competition after the club recruited new players, while one is reportedly under scrutiny following off-field indiscretions.

Willison has said he wants to stay long-term. Reports say Brisbane are prepared to offer the forward a four-year, $4 million deal, and he is expected to accept.

A Broncos hooker, currently behind others in the pecking order, has permission to speak with rival clubs. A younger teammate is viewed as the club's long-term No. 9.

Piakura's injury and concussion history may affect Brisbane's willingness to offer a major extension. The club will lose Payne Haas from 2027 and has signed an NSW Origin prop to replace him.

A younger brother of Storm player Xavier Coates has also been linked with the PNG Chiefs.
