Angus Crichton could play his final NRL match for the Roosters against Cronulla before switching codes next year.
The backrower is expected to return from a lengthy absence caused by a foot injury.
Sam Walker is also nearing an extraordinary comeback after a high-grade syndesmosis injury in the Round 26 defeat by the Dolphins was initially expected to end his season.
Walker has resumed running and told Sky Sports Radio, "It's all coming along well."
He said this week was probably too soon, but remained confident of featuring in the preliminary final if Sydney defeats the Sharks on Saturday night.
Trent Robinson previously said "never say never" about Walker facing Cronulla, but omitted him after the Roosters' qualifying-final loss to Penrith.
Captain James Tedesco said Walker's rapid return to running after surgery had surprised and encouraged teammates.
Hugo Savala will again partner Daly Cherry-Evans in the halves, despite criticism of their performance against Penrith.
Cronulla is close to full strength, with five-eighth Braydon Trindall expected to play despite a painful shoulder injury.
