Bradman Best Prepares for State of Origin Repeat

Bradman Best is familiar with this scenario.

The Newcastle centre prepares to experience déjà vu next Wednesday as he returns to Suncorp Stadium for yet another State of Origin decider, echoing his previous experience with the NSW Blues.

In a memorable series-deciding match two years ago, Best donned the iconic sky-blue jersey. During that game, Queensland took a 4-0 halftime lead through two penalty goals, with both sides struggling to penetrate each other's defenses. Zac Lomax later brought the gap closer with a two-point field goal, yet the match continued in a gripping stalemate.

Then came a moment etched in the minds of Blues supporters.

Jarome Luai burst through the line and offloaded to Best. After a brief bobble that nearly caused panic among fans in New South Wales, the Newcastle centre recovered and fended off his club teammates Dane Gagai and Kalyn Ponga to score a pivotal try in the series.

This cherished memory brings joy to Best, but as another decider approaches, he has shifted his focus to the upcoming challenge.

"People do bring it up, it is pretty cool, but I guess I have another job to do Wednesday night," Best remarked.

Even though there are new faces in the squad since that iconic 2024 victory, Best insists the key to recapturing that success remains uncomplicated.

"Just plenty of confidence and belief," he stated.
