In a move that has sent shockwaves through the rugby league community, former Queensland and Australian representative Darius Boyd has been handed the prestigious role of head coach for the Queensland under-19 State of Origin team.
Boyd, a seasoned veteran of the game, will be taking the reins from Ben Te'o, who has made the decision to focus on his full-time position at the Brisbane Broncos under the guidance of coach Michael Maguire.
Having previously served as an assistant to Te'o, Boyd is ready to step up to the challenge of leading a team of young, up-and-coming players.
With a reputation for his strategic thinking and tactical prowess on the field, Boyd is determined to instill a winning mentality in his players.
"It's a challenge these boys will need to rise to.
I want to set the expectations high and make sure they understand what it means to play for Queensland," Boyd stated confidently.
"They'll need to appreciate the rich history, the passionate fans, and the undeniable sense of pride that comes with wearing the maroon jersey."
The appointment of Boyd has been met with widespread acclaim, with many in the rugby league community praising his dedication and commitment to the sport.
As Boyd himself puts it, "It's about respecting the maroon jersey every time you step onto the field.
That respect will allow them to thrive and grow, both as players and as individuals."
