Sam Walker may consider a switch to rugby union, with Rugby Australia reportedly prepared to offer him $800,000 a season.
The Courier Mail reported the Roosters halfback is open to the code change and could be in contention for the Wallabies at next year's World Cup.
Rugby Australia chief Phil Waugh pursued Walker last week, having also tried to recruit him when he was 16.
Walker played three seasons in Ipswich Grammar's first XV and represented Queensland schoolboys in union.
His future is uncertain after months of negotiations with the Roosters ended. Two weeks ago, the club withdrew its offer for him to stay beyond 2027.
Walker had sought more money after receiving an offer that would have made him one of the highest-paid players in his position.
He has said he wants to complete his current Roosters contract before leaving, though the club could release him before 2027 if another team can accommodate him under its salary cap.
Several clubs are expected to pursue Walker for 2028 onwards. The PNG Chiefs are among the expected suitors, while Perth Bears coach Mal Meninga has named him as one of three targets.
The Chiefs' pursuit is expected to begin after Nathan Cleary's management ruled out the Panthers halfback leaving Penrith.
