Blues Aim for Historic Origin Win Tonight

The New South Wales team is on a mission to secure its inaugural Women's State of Origin victory against Queensland in Newcastle as the series kicks off tonight.

Historically, the Blues have faced tough defeats against the Maroons in both previous Origin matches held in this city.

Last year, they fell short with an 18-14 loss during a match that was a mere formality after they had already clinched the series.

In 2024, an intense encounter ended with a nail-biting 11-10 scoreline, with the Maroons edging ahead via a field goal.

This opening match of the series is particularly significant as it marks the only game taking place in New South Wales for the year 2026.

Subsequent matches are slated to take place in Brisbane and Robina.

"We haven't been too lucky here in Newcastle," commented Blues captain Isabelle Kelly.

"Every time we've been here, we've actually really enjoyed it as well, so it's not a sense of doom and gloom for us.

"Winning game one is a huge boost within the series. I think it can bring a lot of team morale and confidence within the group."

Kelly expressed optimism about the strong support they expect from the Newcastle crowd.
