South Sydney Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett has given his team a "reality check" following their disappointing 32-0 loss to the Bulldogs.
The veteran coach made sure his players were aware of the gravity of their poor performance, knowing that their season could slip away if they don't improve quickly, especially with a tough match against the Melbourne Storm looming.
Rabbitohs centre Campbell Graham acknowledged that they had received a significant dressing down from Bennett, who was honest and straightforward in his assessment.
Graham, who is also vying for a spot in the NSW State of Origin team, admitted that their recent performances had not been up to par.
He mentioned that Bennett identified their mistakes and shortcomings without hesitation, leaving no room for uncertainty.
Graham stated, "Wayne was honest, as he always is, and he gave us a reality check that we needed." The 25-year-old player emphasized the need to address their issues and refocus on playing quality football, highlighting the importance of minimizing errors and improving their defense.
Reflecting on their loss to the Bulldogs, Graham acknowledged that the team did not give themselves a chance due to the high number of errors and lack of discipline.
He admitted that there were areas to improve defensively and that the team needed to regroup and get back to playing their best.
Bennett's blunt assessment and guidance have refocused the Rabbitohs on the task at hand, with the players understanding the urgency of turning their season around.
Graham reiterated, "the last couple of performances have probably been slipping, so he's cleared a few things up for us and narrowed the focus into how we can get back to playing the good footy." Bennett's straightforward approach has motivated the team to work harder and rectify their mistakes before it's too late.
