South Sydney Rabbitohs head coach Wayne Bennett provided an update on Jack Wighton's injury status following his exclusion from the Magic Round match against the Newcastle Knights.

Initially named to captain the side due to Latrell Mitchell's suspension, Wighton underwent a late withdrawal after suffering a calf injury during the previous week's loss to the Melbourne Storm.

Bennett confirmed that Wighton will be sidelined for four to six weeks, marking a significant setback for the team.

The Rabbitohs are already dealing with multiple injuries, with key players Cody Walker, Jamie Humphreys, Cameron Murray, and Alex Johnston also unavailable.

"Four to six weeks, they tell us, it's a pretty serious one," Bennett stated on Friday.

Wighton's absence will be felt as the team navigates through this difficult period.
