Bandwagon now empty as Bulldogs hit rough patch

Twin hammerings in the final two rounds to Manly and North Queensland were bad enough, but the Josh Addo-Carr saga has proven the Dogs resurrection a false dawn with any last momentum behind their surge now clinically neutered.

'A false dawn': Bulldogs revival over before it began as Josh Addo-Carr drama strikes finals month

Just three weeks ago, Canterbury's only headache was finding enough seats inside Accor Stadium to accommodate its overflowing bandwagon.

But now, it's all gone pear-shaped faster than a missed field goal.

Approaching the final rounds in ominous form with seven wins from eight, the resurgent powerhouse was eyeing off the top four and staking a claim for a home final and fairytale rights to the September series.

Blue and white jerseys were everywhere as Belmore roared back to life, with the streets igniting for anything from a line break to a simple Viliame Kikau re-bleach.

Some of the faithful were even so chipper they were dreaming of a Cinderella grand final story- but not anymore.

Canterbury's dreams have now rapidly evaporated in the space of two confidence-destroying defeats and one commute for a phone charger.

It's enough to make any football fan wonder if this season has turned into a game of rugby league snakes and ladders.
