Australia's Walsh-Tedesco fullback dilemma

Luke Keary believes Reece Walsh should keep Australia's fullback jersey for the World Cup semi-final after his performance against the Cook Islands.

"I think Walsh. His two performances have been outstanding," Keary told Channel 7 when asked who Australia's fullback should be. "I think this should be the team they go with next week."

Walsh scored a try and set up five more in the Kangaroos' 66-6 win in Townsville on Saturday night.

The unbeaten Australians secured top spot in Pool A and are likely to meet the loser of Sunday's Tonga-Samoa match in seven days.

If Tonga beat Samoa by more than 46 points, Australia will instead face England.

Coach Kevin Walters started Walsh ahead of James Tedesco and selected Tom Dearden alongside Cameron Munster in the halves.

Jack Bostock and Tom Trbojevic each scored hat-tricks, while Jacob Preston also impressed.

Walsh had starred in Australia's opening win over New Zealand, but a late leg knock raised concerns.

He told reporters "it feels good" after the match. Walters said Walsh and reserve forward Cam Murray, who missed the game with a sore calf, were not in doubt for the semi-final.

"That's Reece, that's what he brings to the team," Walters said after the game.

"I'll make a decision about the fullback in the next couple of days. James was equally as good last week, he set up four tries last week. We're fortunate with the Australian team and the players we have in the group. Selections are tough. It's a good position to be in as coach."
