Australian clubs are exploring the possibility of acquiring or forming partnerships with Super League franchises if the NRL assumes control over the sport in England.
Earlier this month, the Australian Rugby League Commission proposed a $57 million offer to Rugby League Commercial to buy a 50 percent interest in the Super League. This offer translates to $11.47 million annually over five years, aimed at boosting club revenues, many of which are currently struggling financially.
Reports from the UK suggest that RLC is opting for a £50 million loan instead, as English clubs were hesitant about the initial proposal. Sources privy to the discussions, but not authorized to speak publicly, indicated that the ARLC had shared detailed answers regarding the NRL's vision for the northern hemisphere with the RFL, but this information has not yet reached English clubs.
NRL teams are keeping a close eye on the situation, with some believing investing in an English club could be a smart move if the NRL and Super League can reach an agreement. Some Australian clubs may explore either buying a stake in or fully owning an English club, anticipating that its value will rise once the Super League is under ARLC management. Others may seek partnerships to facilitate better talent and expertise exchange between the two hemispheres.
