'Turn this club back into a powerhouse': Atkinson reveals new Dragons role
St George Illawarra's recent recruit, Daniel Atkinson, has expressed his readiness to lead the Dragons' offensive efforts as he aims to guide the club back to the finals for the first time since 2018.
It has been almost a year since the announcement of the playmaker's signing, leaving fans to endure a tough season before finally seeing Atkinson on the field in the Dragons' colors.
The 24-year-old has completed his initial two weeks of pre-season training and is anticipated to don the No.7 jersey when the 2026 campaign kicks off against the Bulldogs in Las Vegas.
This is a role Atkinson has long desired, and the chance to serve as the primary playmaker was a significant factor in his decision to leave Cronulla.
Following a breakout season in 2024, where he stepped in for Braydon Trindall and later Nicho Hynes, Atkinson faced a challenging year with the Sharks as his move south drew nearer.
