Broken foot rules Young out of third Ashes Test

Knights winger Dom Young will miss the third Ashes Test against Australia at Headingley due to a broken foot.

England coach Shaun Wane announced that Young's injury occurred in the closing minutes of the second Test at Everton, where England lost 14-4 to the Kangaroos, marking Australia's retention of the Ashes for the first time in 22 years.

Wane has selected Joe Burgess, a former player for Rabbitohs and Roosters, to take Young's place. Additionally, centre Harry Newman will join the squad, replacing Jack Wardle for Saturday's match at Headingley Stadium.

Meanwhile, Cowboys second-rower John Bateman remains unavailable due to an ankle injury sustained just before the second Test.

Burgess, instrumental in Hull KR's treble-winning 2025 season, is poised to make his first England appearance since a series victory against New Zealand in 2015, early in his career with Wigan.

Newman is among three Leeds players in the 19-man squad, featuring Rhinos teammate and seasoned Test player Kallum Watkins, who earned his 30th England cap last weekend. Leeds prop Mikolaj Oledzki is also anticipated to participate in the home Test.
