It is now confirmed that Bronson Xerri will be transferring to the Melbourne Storm for the 2027 NRL season, ending his tenure with the Canterbury Bulldogs.
This decision follows a period filled with uncertainty regarding Xerri's future with the team. Earlier in the year, he requested an immediate release from the Bulldogs, but after discussions with General Manager of Football Phil Gould, he decided to stay at Belmore for the rest of the 2026 season.
Even though his contract was initially set to run until the end of 2027, the Bulldogs allowed him to negotiate with other clubs, facilitating his move to Melbourne.
The 25-year-old's exit signals a new phase in his career, especially after the Bulldogs provided him a chance to return to the NRL ahead of the 2024 season.
Xerri had faced a four-year hiatus from professional play due to a doping suspension during his time with the Cronulla Sharks, but he successfully revived his career while at Canterbury.
Since making his NRL debut with the Sharks in 2019, Xerri has accumulated 76 first-grade appearances. This season, he has played 11 games for the Bulldogs and scored two tries.
Frank Ponissi, the Director of Football for Melbourne Storm, expressed confidence in Xerri's ability to enhance the team's backline for the foreseeable future.
"We're thrilled to have Bronson joining the Club on a three-year deal," Ponissi said.
"He's a tough, competitive player with great speed and athleticism who we believe will be an important addition to the outside backs heading into the next three years."
