LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Wayne Bennett, the super coach of the Dolphins, has sent Valynce Te Whare to a personal boot camp in a bid to control his weight, as reported by news.com.au.

The 23-year-old cult hero has been stood down from Dolphins training for two weeks and is attending a one-on-one camp with renowned trainer Mark 'Chopper' Burgess.

Burgess, who has previously worked with Bennett at the Broncos, is hoping to save Te Whare's career from ending prematurely.

Te Whare finished the season weighing 125kg and reportedly gained 4kg over one weekend leading into pre-season.

The situation is critical, with Te Whare's NRL career hanging by a thread due to his weight issues.

The tough sessions in Brisbane's heat are a last-ditch effort to get his weight under control and salvage his career.
