In a recent report on sharks.com.au, it was revealed that the Newtown Jets' loss in their most recent match has put their top five position in jeopardy.
The defeat came at the hands of the Penrith Panthers, who secured a 30-6 victory.
As a result, the Jets have slipped down to fourth place on the ladder with 27 points.
However, they face tough competition from the Penrith Panthers, Manly Sea Eagles, and South Sydney Rabbitohs, all of whom are hot on their heels with 26 points each.
Additionally, the New Zealand Warriors and Canterbury Bulldogs also have 27 points, but they currently hold a better points differential than the Jets.
The Newtown Jets are facing challenges with a lengthy injury list and call-ups to the Cronulla Sharks NRL squad.
Despite these setbacks, the Jets fielded a young team in their recent match against the Panthers.
Although the final scoreline may suggest a lopsided affair, it was actually a closely contested battle in the first half.
The Panthers managed to open up a 12-0 lead with converted tries in the 11th and 19th minutes.
However, the Jets put significant pressure on the Panthers throughout the first half, particularly in their own half of the field.
