Following injuries to Cody Walker and Jamie Humphreys, South Sydney Rabbitohs are facing a halves conundrum heading into round six of the NRL.
English recruit Lewis Dodd seemed like a perfect replacement to make his NRL debut at halfback, but a one-game ban for a crusher tackle has ruled him out.
Coach Wayne Bennett may turn to Latrell Mitchell at five-eighth and Jayden Sullivan at halfback for Saturday night's clash with North Queensland in Perth.
However, Bennett also has the option of calling on Jack Wighton, who filled in at five-eighth last season.
Wighton hinted in a post-game interview with Andrew Johns that Bennett is unlikely to give him a halves role this season, saying, "the first thing Wayne said when he saw me was 'Jack, I don't like you in the halves, you're back in the centres'." Despite this, Wighton acknowledged the team's need for playmakers, saying "We've lost two (playmakers) though so I might have a chance." Bennett's decision on who will fill the halves positions remains uncertain, with Dodd possibly getting a chance after round six.
