Wigan Warriors women's team is gearing up for a significant season opener against York Valkyrie, coinciding with a double-header event on Friday night at The Brick Community Stadium.

Notably, the team is also preparing for its Challenge Cup final against local rivals St Helens on June 7, marking an important moment as Wigan aims to capture their first Cup title while St Helens seeks a fifth consecutive win.

The Warriors will face York Valkyrie at 5pm, followed by the men's team competing against Leigh Leopards at 7.30pm, with both matches broadcasted on Sky Sports Action.

Georgia Wilson, a standout player for Wigan, emphasizes the importance of focusing on the immediate challenge against York rather than the upcoming final at Wembley.

She stated, "We're trying not to mention too much about Wembley at the moment.

Obviously, it's really exciting and it's obviously the first time getting there, but we've got a massive game on Friday night against York."

This opening match represents a historic moment for several members of the women's team who have not played live on Sky Sports or on home turf before.

The anticipation builds not only for the game but also for what this season could mean for Wigan's women's rugby league presence.
