Whitehead's NRL future in jeopardy after MRC charges

LeagueNews.co | Jason Patrick

Elliott Whitehead's NRL journey with the Canberra Raiders may have hit a roadblock as the Match Review Committee has laid down some hefty charges following Sunday's game.

The Raiders' skipper has found himself in hot water, jeopardizing their slim chance of making it to the finals of rugby league.

In what can only be described as a game filled with drama, Whitehead's tackle on Brandon Smith has landed him in hot water.

Smith's unfortunate ACL injury has not only ended his season but has also put a dampener on his 2025 prospects.

The hip drop tackle has seen Whitehead being sin-binned and now facing a Grade 3 dangerous contact charge.

With this being his second offence on record, Whitehead is staring at a potential three-match suspension if he takes the early guilty plea.

However, the brave-heart can choose to roll the dice and take his chances at the judiciary, risking a fourth match on the sidelines.

Can he pull off a miraculous save and continue to grace the NRL stage, or is this the final whistle on his rugby league career? Time will tell in this gripping saga.
