Perth has hit a home run towards achieving their dream of scoring a rugby league team, with the Western Australian premier now throwing his hat into the ring for an expansion franchise.
The Perth Bears bid, which saw a Perth-based consortium teaming up with the North Sydney Bears, had seemed like it was down for the count due to failed financial guarantees.
But, like a phoenix rising from the ashes, reports from The Sydney Morning Herald suggest that Premier Roger Cook and Australian Rugby League Commission Chairman Peter V'Landys have joined forces in Sydney.
During their meeting, it was revealed that the Western Australian government has pledged up to $500 million in funding and infrastructure investment to kickstart the rugby league team.
This funding would not only support pathways, community, and development but also lead to the expansion of HBF Stadium in Perth.
The stadium would see its seating capacity increase from 22,500 to a whopping 27,000, becoming the new battleground for the Perth-based team.
With this new backing, Perth is taking a giant step towards making their rugby league dreams a reality.
It's a game-changer for the sport in Western Australia and a testament to the resilience and determination of the Perth Bears bid.
