Wayne Bennett: Coaching for the win, again

In a recent episode of The Knock On Podcast from Zero Tackle, co-host Terry expressed doubts about Wayne Bennett's status as an elite coach.

He remarked, "I don't (even) consider Wayne Bennett elite anymore, because of how things ended at Brisbane, how things didn't work out for him at the Dolphins, South Sydney not going so good at the moment." Although he acknowledged Bennett as "the greatest coach of all time," he believes current circumstances have hindered Bennett's standing.

Despite being a longtime admirer of Bennett, the statement prompted a strong reaction.

The author recalls Bennett's significant accomplishment in coaching England to the 2017 World Cup final in Brisbane, their first final appearance since 1972.

This achievement solidified Bennett's place in the author's personal coaching hall of fame.

The author, along with fellow fans, was initially skeptical about England's chances, considering the team's historical difficulties against Australia.

However, Bennett's coaching inspired hope, highlighting his lasting impact on the sport and his ability to elevate teams despite recent challenges.

Ultimately, while opinions may vary on Bennett's current effectiveness, his past successes and influential coaching style continue to resonate, affirming his status in the rugby league community.
