It's crunch time for Michael Maguire as he faces his first big decision as Blues coach, but it seems Wayde Egan has put his hand up for a State of Origin debut with a stellar performance at hooker over the weekend.
According to Andrew Webster at news.com.au, Egan could form a deadly partnership with fellow former Penrith hooker Api Koroisau to wreak havoc around the ruck, giving Queensland a run for their money in the upcoming Origin series.
Maguire's selection headache at No.9 is a tough one, especially with Koroisau sidelined last year and Reece Robson and Damien Cook stepping up in his absence.
However, Egan's standout showing against Souths has put him in contention for the coveted Blues jersey.
Despite battling injuries and flying under the radar due to his Kiwi league connections, Egan's commanding performance against a top team like Souths has caught the attention of selectors.
With his sights set on Origin glory, Egan is primed to bring his A-game to the NSW squad in 2024.
As Webster puts it, "The next step for him is Origin." It looks like Egan is ready to tackle the challenge head-on and make a name for himself in the State of Origin arena.
