The New Zealand Warriors have officially announced that they have secured North Queensland Cowboys forward Sam McIntyre on a two-year contract, starting next season.
McIntyre is expected to bring not only valuable versatility but also substantial experience to the Warriors' forward lineup, being capable of playing as both a prop and a second-rower.
The 28-year-old has participated in 14 games for the Cowboys this season and is on the verge of reaching an NRL milestone, with 95 first-grade appearances to his name.
He made his debut in the NRL with the Wests Tigers in 2020 and spent three seasons with the Gold Coast Titans afterward.
Joining the Cowboys in 2023, he reached a career milestone the following year by participating in their finals matches against the Newcastle Knights and Cronulla Sharks.
His successful 2024 season was highlighted by his inclusion in the Australian Prime Minister's XIII, where he scored a try during their 42-20 win over Papua New Guinea.
This transfer to the Warriors will enhance the team's forward depth, particularly on the edges, following the exit of promising young talent Kayliss Fatialofa to the Manly Sea Eagles next season.
"Sam is a terrific addition to the squad from next season," noted One New Zealand Warriors general manager of recruitment, pathways, and development, Andrew McFadden.
"With a few forwards leaving us this year, he'll provide experience and depth to the roster."
