In a recent match against the Dolphins, New Zealand Warriors coach Andrew Webster expressed his support for the team's decision to take multiple penalty goal attempts despite the eventual loss.
The Warriors managed to secure 16 points during the game, converting five penalty goals through Taine Tuaupiki, while only scoring one try.
Late in the match, the Dolphins capitalized on opportunities, scoring three tries in a decisive 15-minute stretch that turned the tide against the Warriors.
"We didn't get the opportunity to get a flow into the attack. That's the negative side of taking the penalty goals, but to stretch them out to eight points, we had to do it. It's a no-brainer," Webster stated after the match.
Despite leading at halftime, Webster noted the team struggled to maintain that momentum in the second half, stating, "We were chasing contact and collision, and they were pinballing. We have to be more efficient next week."
The match was marked by chaos, including three players being sin-binned in the first half, which left the Warriors briefly with only 11 players on the field.
Warriors captain Mitch Barnett commented on the impact of these sin bins, saying, "I actually thought we handled that period really well, so I don't know if it took enough gas out of us to lose the game."
