Warrington Wolves are making notable changes to their roster as they prepare for the 2027 season. Sam Burgess has secured the signing of Jacob Gagai, the younger brother of Dane Gagai, a former teammate.
Jacob Gagai has made a mark by scoring nine tries in 17 appearances for South Sydney Rabbitohs in 2024. After his time in Australia, he moved to the English Super League, where he netted 20 tries in 38 matches for Huddersfield over two seasons.
At Warrington, he joins new additions Brodie Croft, Mitchell Prest, and Toby Crosby. Burgess has a history with Dane Gagai, with the two having played together at the Rabbitohs during the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
Burgess expressed confidence in Jacob's abilities, given their prior connection from his coaching stint at South Sydney. "He's been very consistent since he's come over to Super League," he remarked. "We just think he'll bring that competitive edge to us and he'll fit in well."
The announcement of Gagai's signing follows the retirement of Sam Powell, a hooker with 344 top-level games to his name during his career with Wigan and Warrington.
Reflecting on his journey, Powell stated, "I can hold my head high and say I've given it my all." He will join Burgess' coaching staff at Warrington starting in 2027.
