Kevin Walters goes public with 'difficult' family development after sacking as Broncos coach

Former Broncos coach Kevin Walters has opened up about the challenges he has faced since being sacked from his coaching role.

Walters admitted that it has been difficult for him to watch and commentate on Brisbane games, especially with his son Billy playing for the team.

Despite wanting to see his son perform well, Walters found it hard to watch the Broncos excel under new coach Michael Maguire, knowing that his exit contributed to their success.

After being let go by the Broncos, Walters and his wife Narelle did not attend the club's end-of-season presentation night, indicating the impact his departure had on him.

Although CEO Dave Donaghy initially mentioned that Walters would stay on in an 'ambassadorial' role, it was later revealed that he no longer has a formal position with the club.

Walters has since returned to commentary with Fox League, a move he describes as less stressful compared to coaching in the NRL.

While Walters is pleased to see the Broncos performing well, he acknowledged that it has been a challenging experience for him.

"It's hard too with Billy there because we want him to have a great season as well," he said.

Despite the difficulties he has faced, Walters remains positive and grateful for the opportunity to watch the team play.

"At the end of the day I enjoy watching them play and play well, so there's no hard feelings there," he added.

Reflecting on his transition from coaching to commentary, Walters expressed his enjoyment of the more relaxed environment that broadcasting provides.

"It's the next best thing for me," he said.

"It's a lot less stressful.

And coaching can be a very lonely job as well, especially after a couple of losses when things don't seem to be working." Despite the challenges he has encountered, Walters remains optimistic and focused on moving forward in his new role as a commentator.
